Dracula 10 Professional Hairdressing Channeller

Hand-finished & inspected at Matt Grumley’s bench, Lake Wendouree.

Built for: chunky, intentional texture and signature dramatic finishes

Who it suits For stylists who want visible, deliberate texture — ten wide teeth carve channels through a section to create separation and movement, so the result is meant to be seen. If you want invisible blending instead, a higher tooth count is the tool for that job.

The full brief

The Dracula 10 carves texture and movement no ordinary scissor can. A wide-set Japanese Cobalt Alloy channelling edge built to remove weight and create flow in one clean pass — the tool for visible, deliberate texture.

It feels precise and controlled, carving channels that create separation and movement. The tool that makes a finish look effortless and expensive — and gives your work a signature softness.

The spec: wide-set teeth on a 6010 radial blade in Japanese Cobalt Alloy — firmly in the channelling bracket, removing a heavy share of the hair caught between the teeth per closure. That’s why it carves movement a fine thinner can’t: channelling scissors don’t blend weight away, they cut channels of negative space that make the remaining hair move. If you’re searching for channelling or chunking scissors in Australia, this is the bench’s channelling pick — see the rest of the thinning, texturising and channelling line.

Choosing between channellers? Reach for the Dracula 10 when you want carved, obvious texture. The Firebird Channeller/Texturiser is built for moderate channelling — visible texture without the chunk — and the Jada 16 is the line’s other channeller, built for pronounced texture where the channels are the design intent. If you want the opposite, weight gone with no visible join, that is a thinner’s job: the 30-tooth Geisha Thinner with its even, moderate bite per closure, or the 35-tooth Vampire 35 with its lighter bite per closure.

From Matt Grumley, Australian scissorsmith: “The Dracula 10 is for texture with control. It removes weight and leaves movement — finished by hand to cut soft, never harsh.”

ShearGenius — Australia’s most trusted scissorsmith since 2007. The scissors stylists actually recommend.

What that means at the chair

  • Wide-set channelling edge — pulls real weight out in one pass, so you're not going over the same section three times
  • Offset ergonomic handle — your thumb stops doing all the work on long texturising days
  • Cobalt Alloy at 58 HRC — holds its edge through steady salon use, so the soft cut stays soft between services
  • Single bearing flat pivot — a smooth, consistent action, so the channeller glides instead of grabbing

Who it’s not for: This isn't a cutting scissor — it's the finishing tool that works alongside one. If you're after a scissor for clean baseline cutting rather than removing weight and building texture, the channeller isn't the pair to reach for.

Why a real scissorsmith finishes every pair

Matt Grumley has cut hair since 1990. Aaron since 1987. Seventy-five-plus years combined in the industry — and over one hundred thousand scissors across Matt’s bench tells you exactly what a working edge needs. Every ShearGenius scissor is forged in Japan from premium Japanese steel, then hand-finished at Matt’s bench in Lake Wendouree, Victoria: the Wendouree Finish — thirty checks before any scissor ships. No batch passes.

That’s why we can guarantee it for life.
