The ShearGenius Lifetime Manufacturing Warranty

"What if I spend $600 on a scissor and something goes wrong?"

Fair question. It's the one every hairdresser quietly asks before buying — because most of us have been burned before: the pair that lost its edge in months, the brand that stopped answering emails the day after the sale.

Here's our answer, in full:

The ShearGenius Lifetime Manufacturing Warranty

ShearGenius scissors are covered for their lifetime against manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship. If a fault in how your scissor was made ever shows up — this year or fifteen years from now — contact us and we will repair or replace it.

Plain English about what that means:

  • Covered, for life: manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship — cracks, pivot faults, blade faults, finishing faults. Age doesn't end the cover.
  • Not covered: ordinary edge wear, sharpening and routine servicing (working edges wear — that's physics, not a defect), accidental damage or drops, misuse or neglect, corrosion or chemical damage, and unauthorised modifications.
  • Had them sharpened elsewhere? That does not cancel your warranty. An unrelated manufacturing defect is still covered. Damage caused by that sharpening or repair, though, is not ours to cover.
  • There is no separate edge guarantee, and sharpening is not included with the purchase — sharpening is our professional service, priced on its own.

Your rights under Australian Consumer Law

Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.

Nothing in this warranty limits those rights — it sits alongside them.

How to make a claim

Warrantor: ShearGenius Scissorsmiths (ABN 22 307 274 752), 6/464 Wendouree Parade, Lake Wendouree VIC 3350.

Call or text Bec on 0487 391 647, or email sales@sheargenius.com.au. Tell us what's wrong, your name and (if you have it) your order number or roughly when and where you bought — our own records usually do the rest. If we're already servicing your area, Matt can assess the scissor at your salon on the next van run; otherwise we'll arrange for it to come to the bench.

The warranty, used

A stylist chipped a blade on a pair she'd had for years. Her words, from her public Google review: "I once had a chip in my scissors, and they had the issue sorted fast… I couldn't recommend them highly enough." — Pyper Templeton.

And the one we're less proud of: an Elite left here with a tension fault we should have caught at the bench. The customer got a replacement pair, no argument — and still marked us down in her review. Fair enough. A warranty was never a promise that we're perfect. It's a promise about what happens when we're not.

Why we can promise this

We sharpen scissors for a living — 100,000+ pairs across every brand on the Australian market since 2007. When you've seen that many scissors wear, fail and perform on the bench, you learn exactly what a manufacturing fault looks like, what honest wear looks like, and you stop being afraid to stand behind what you sell. That's also the honest answer to "what are the most durable hairdressing scissors?" — durability is a claim every brand makes; a lifetime manufacturing warranty from the people who also service the scissors is the version with consequences.

If you want the specifics rather than the adjective: the Prodigy is forged ATS-314 run to 60–62 HRC, the hardest steel we work with. The Apex is standard ATS-314 at 58–60 HRC on a single bearing flat pivot, built for all-day precision cutting. Our Cobalt Alloy models run 58 HRC. Hardness on its own does not make a scissor durable — edge geometry, tension, how it is used and whether it is serviced properly all decide how long it lasts. That is why the warranty covers manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship, and why ordinary edge wear and sharpening are maintenance rather than warranty work.

What this means when you're choosing

You only have to buy once — that's the whole method. A scissor warranted for life against manufacturing faults, at wholesale pricing, costs less over a career than replacing cheap pairs every year or two. 3,400+ verified reviews at 4.9★ say it rarely comes to a claim — but if it does, you know exactly where we are.
