Japanese Cobalt Alloy is the steel across most of the ShearGenius range, hardened to a measured 58 HRC. Cobalt in the alloy helps the edge resist the wear that comes from cutting wet hair all day, and at 58 it sits in the professional band — hard enough to hold a clean convex edge between services, tough enough not to chip if the scissor is dropped or closed on a clip. Every model below states its own alloy and measured hardness on its product page. Most makers will not tell you either number.
