Matt Grumley has been sharpening scissors, training stylists and cutting hair since 1990 — and he has been designing and selling his own scissors since 2007. That is 19 years as an independent brand, not a rebadged import line. Our closest competitors are marketers who bought their scissor brands from the previous owners within the last seven years. There is no middleman. There is no marketing department. There is just Matt.

We bring a full Japanese water-stone set-up, calibrated tension tools, and the only scissorsmith in Australia who is also a working hairdresser, designer and educator. Your scissors leave your hand sharp, tensioned, oiled and ready for the next client. You do not pack a thing. You do not post a thing. You keep cutting.

Flat Pricing. No Surprises.

  • $70 per scissor — ShearGenius hairdressing and barber scissors.
  • $80 per scissor — every other brand (Japanese, European, anything).
  • $70 per scissor — texturisers and thinners (teethed blades).
  • No call-out fee when three or more scissors are booked.
  • Same-day on the day of visit. We sharpen on site while you work.

What You Get on Every Service

  1. Full inspection. Tension, pivot wear, edge integrity, handle damage and screw condition.
  2. True convex regrind. Hollow-ground 20-22° edge restored on Japanese water stones — not a flat grinder, not a belt sander.
  3. Edge polishing. Mirror finish to seal the ride line and extend the next cycle.
  4. Pivot service. Cleaned, lubricated and adjusted to the correct drop-test tension.
  5. Oil and test cut. Scissor oiled, test-cut on real hair, handed back working exactly as it should.
  6. Warranty advice. If your scissor is past saving, we tell you honestly and show you why.

Why Mobile Beats the Local Grinder

Every regional town in Australia has a bloke with a grinding wheel and a ute. Most of them will destroy a $900 Japanese scissor inside ten minutes. The convex edge on a ShearGenius — or any premium Japanese shear — cannot be recreated on a flat grinder. It has to be restored by hand on a water stone by someone who understands the geometry. Call or email to book the route. We quote a date, a salon arrival window, and a firm price. No deposit. No call-out fee if you have three or more scissors. We keep every booking on a fixed schedule so you can plan around a working day without surprises.
