Why a scissorsmith, not a generic mobile grinder
A grinder restores the edge. A scissorsmith restores the scissor — pivot torque, tension, bumper, alignment, edge. Premium Japanese steel like ATS-314 holds a hand-finished convex edge much longer than a machine-ground equivalent. Matt has spent 35+ years on this work specifically.

Yes. The majority of professional scissors we service in Carnegie are Japanese ATS-314 or Cobalt steel. We restore them on Japanese water stones, in-house, by hand. Generic mobile-grinders often refuse Japanese premium because the technique is slow.
What about thinning and texturising scissors?
Tooth-by-tooth in-house service — yes. We're one of few sharpeners in Carnegie that does proper thinner work rather than just edge-grinding the outside of the teeth.
